Cuff Title: GROSSDEUTSCHLAND Division |
||||
| In the first week of 1939, Hitler renamed the Wach Regiment Berlin the Infanterie Regiment Grossdeutschland. This was an elite Heer regiment with recruits drawn from across Germany. The activation of the unit on 14 June 1939, was celebrated with a parade through Berlin. The regiment fought extensively on the Eastern Front. This particular cuff title was obtained from a private collection which was put together mainly in the 1960's. Note some discoloration on the last few letters.

Papier Mache Servicemen |
||||
| Here is an unusual example of home-front art: Figures of three allied servicemen rendered in papier mache. The figures stand about 22 inches tall, and represent an RAF pilot, an Army Air Corps pilot, and a paratrooper (note the bloused trousers). We have no information about the purpose or past of these figures. It has been suggested that they may represent movie stars of the period, and there is a hint of Clark Gable in one figure. Whatever their origin, today they are regarded today as whimsical examples of home-front art.
PRICE: $1,750.00; for the group |
